Train ride

This wednesday evening my cousin and her boyfriend came to visit me and my mom came too. It was a surprise and I was so, so happy to see her! They stayed until Sunday afternoon. Thursday and Friday they had to explore Brussels by themselves but I prepared a guide with the main places to see and metro stations. Friday afternoon I finally had the opportunity to spend some time with them and we went out for dinner in a nice cosy place called Knees to Chin. I totally recommend! They have delicious rice paper rolls with a mix of vegetables, fruit and meat/fish. Big plans for Saturday, a trip to Bruges and Ghent! Check the pictures below!

Esta quarta-feira à noite, a minha prima e o namorado dela vieram visitar-me e a minha mãe veio também. Foi uma surpresa e eu fiquei tão, tão feliz por a ver! Eles ficaram até Domingo à tarde. Quinta e sexta-feira, eles tiveram de explorar Bruxelas sozinhos mas eu preparei um guia dos principais sítios a ver e as estações de metro. Sexta-feira à tarde finalmente pude passar algum tempo com eles e fomos jantar a um sítio muito giro e agradável chamado Knees to Chin. Recomendo totalmente! Eles têm deliciosos rolos com massa de arroz com uma mistura de vegetais, fruta e carne/peixe. Grandes planos para Sábado: uma visita a Bruges e a Ghent! Vejam as fotos abaxo!

1. Bruges

Saturday morning, around 9h30, we bought a train ticket to Bruges. I've been wanting to visit this little town ever since I moved to Brussels, and it's quite scary to think that one year has passed already! Yep, it's true! So I decided it would be nice for them to visit this town, to get a different perspective of Belgium, not just Brussels. I was quite amazed with the beauty of this city... Of course I've seen pictures, but it's nice to finally see what everyone talks about. Medieval buildings, lovely houses along the canal, old little streets, lots of green spaces and flowers, everything so peaceful! It was very relaxing, even though there were some silly drops of rain that fortunately didn't last long.

Sábado de manhã, por volta das 9h30, comprámos um bilhete de comboio para Bruges. Desde que me mudei para Bruxelas que quero visitar esta pequena cidade, e até assusta pensar que já passou 1 ano! Yap, é verdade! Por isso decidi que seria giro ir com eles visitar esta cidade, para terem uma perspectiva diferente da Bélgica, sem ser só Bruxelas. Fiquei maravilhada com a beleza desta cidade... Claro que eu já tinha visto fotos mas é bom finalmente ver aquilo de que as pessoas tanto falam. Edifícios medievais, casinhas amorosas ao longo do canal, ruelas antigas, imensos espaços verdes e flores, tudo muito tranquilo! Foi bastante relaxante, mesmo com umas gotas de chuva tontas que, felizmente, não duraram muito.  

2. Ghent

In the train route to Bruges there is always a stop in Ghent, so we thought it would be nice to go there after visiting Bruges. So, on our way back, we got out in Ghent! Everything is so different from Brussels, it's incredible. I loved Ghent! There are so many things happening, it's such a lively city, beautiful sights, the river, boat rides, nice little corners and cute cafes, lovely tea shops, fantastic churches! We went for lunch in a vegetarian restaurant called Panda in Oudburg. It was a bit expensive but we loved the food! It was a huge plate, loads of different vegetables and delicious flavours! After stuffing our bellies, we continued our walk around the medieval streets of Ghent, visiting some shops and buying souvenirs, enjoying the cloudy but pleasant day! I wanna go there again...

Na rota de comboio para Bruges, há sempre uma paragem em Ghent, por isso pensámos que seria bom irmos lá depois de visitar Bruges. Por isso, no caminho de volta, saímos do comboio em Ghent! É tudo tão diferente de Bruxelas, é incrível. Adorei Ghent! Há tanta coisa a acontecer, é uma cidade cheia de vida, lindas paisagens, o rio, passeios de barco, cantinhos bonitos e cafés amorosos, lojinhas de chás, igrejas fantásticas! Fomos almoçar num restaurante vegetariano chamado Panda em Oudburg. Foi um pouco caro mas adorámos a comida! Era um prato enorme, com diferentes vegetais e sabores deliciosos! Depois de enchermos as barrigas, continuámos o nosso passeio pelas ruas medievais de Ghent, visitando algumas lojas e comprando souvenirs, desfrutando do dia nublado mas muito agradável! Quero lá voltar outra vez...

The worst part of these amazing family days, is when we have to say "see you soon" to them and watch them go on the train while we stay behind. But time flies and it's already September. We didn't have a proper summer in Brussels, some people say it will come now in September. It sounds a bit confusing but let's see how it goes. Anyway, it's always nice when it's warmer and the sun is shining. My holidays are over for now. I'm saving the days I still have to go home for Christmas. So now, it's time to enjoy Brussels, with or without sun, and let's see what will happen from now on!

A pior parte destes dias fantásticos em família é quando temos de dizer "até breve" e vê-los partir no comboio enquanto nós ficamos para trás. Mas o tempo voa e já é Setembro. Não tivemos um Verão normal em Bruxelas, algumas pessoas dizem que chega agora em Setembro. Parece confuso, mas vamos ver como será. De qualquer maneira, é sempre bom quando está quentinho e o sol brilha. As minhas férias acabaram por agora. Estou a guardar os dias que me restam para ir a casa pelo Natal. Por isso agora é altura de aproveitar Bruxelas, com sol ou sem sol, e a ver o que acontecerá daqui em diante!
